GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart and William Smith sailing team at the War Memorial regatta on the waters of Seneca Lake this past weekend, Oct. 25-26. The War Memorial is the MAISA coed fall dinghy championship.
In addition, William Smith sailors were seventh at the MAISA Fall Women's Championship in Throggs Neck.
WAR MEMORIAL
- Sailing on their home waters, HWS sailors finished the weekend with 79 points.
- Ten races were completed on Saturday in winds ranging from four to 14 knots.
- The final six races were contested on Sunday for a total of eight in each division.
- Seniors Juan Carlos LaCerda Jones and Valyn Mogensen finished in a tie for third in A Division with St. Mary's College (Md.) and were awarded the head-to-head tiebreaker. Lacerda Jones and Mogensen finished he weekend with 37 points.
- They finished in the top ten in seven of the eight races. The duo won three races.
- Juniors JJ Klempen and Stella Kim were fourth in B Division. They missed out on the top three by one point.
- Like in A Division, the HWS duo was in the top ten seven times. They won the first race of the weekend.
- St. Mary's (Md.) won the regatta with 60 points.
MAISA WOMEN'S FALL DINGHY
- The Herons finished the weekend in seventh place with 201 points.
- Racing on Saturday was contested on Long Island Sound with breezes ranging from 8-10 knots. A total of 18 races went off on Day 1.
- Sunday saw the final 10 races go off in great sailing conditions.
- Sophomores Sabrina Starck and Olivia Wilkins finished third in A Division with 74 points. They crossed the line in the top 10 in all 14 races, winning the third.
- First-year Moira Padilla Velasquez and Dagny Kruger and junior Bennett O'Keefe finished 10th in B Division with 127 points. They were in the top 10 in all but four races.
- Georgetown won the regatta.
