#20 Herons travel to RPI for regular season finale

The 20th-ranked William Smith soccer team is back in action on Saturday, Nov. 1, when it heads to Troy, New York, to take on Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in its last regular season. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at the Engineers' ECAV Stadium.
 
William Smith is 11-2-2 overall with a 7-1-0 mark in Liberty League play after defeating Union 2-1 on Saturday. The Herons enter the weekend on a seven-game win streak.
 
RPI is 6-7-3 overall and 2-4-2 in conference play. The Engineers beat Bard 4-0 on Wednesday.

ABOUT THE HERONS
  • Senior Ruth Hotaling leads the league with 12 goals and 25 points. She is 39th in the nation in total goals. and 49th
  • Senior Julia Bragg is second on the team with eight goals and 16 points.  She is fourth in the conference in goals.
  • Sophomore Grace Metzler leads the Herons with four assists.
  • Junior Antonia Goerke has played the majority of minutes in goal. She has a GAA of 0.77, an .863 save percentage and seven shutouts.
 
ABOUT THE ENGINEERS
  • Maddy Kaminski leads the team with four goals and eight points.
  • Genevieve Ricci is right behind her with six points on two goals and two assists.
  • Annabelle Bachhuber (1g, 2a) and Rachel Borra (2g) have four points each.
  • Audrey Montero has played the majority of minutes in goal, sporting a GAA of 0.83, an .866 save percentage and five shutouts.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Saturday will be the 38th meeting between the Herons and the Engineers.
  • William Smith leads the all-time series 35-2-0, including a 14-2-0 mark at RPI.
  • The Herons head to Troy for the second straight year. Last season, William Smith came away with a 1-0 victory.
 
PLAYOFF PUSH
  • The Herons enter the weekend tied for first place in the conference standings with Vassar. Both teams have 21 points and have clinched byes to the Liberty League Tournament semifinals.  
  • The Herons can clinch at least a share of the regular-season title and the No. 1 seed with a win over RPI because William Smith holds the head-to-head tiebreaker over Vassar.
  • RPI is currently in the eighth spot in the league standings with eight points. The Engineers need a win Saturday and some help to get into the playoffs.
