GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart junior running back
E.J. Taylor produced his third 100-yard rushing game of the season, but the Statesmen were plagued by injuries, penalties and turnovers in a 36-10 loss to visiting RPI this afternoon.
Taylor had 14 carries in the game, including a 64-yard burst near the end of the first half that led to the Statesmen's first points, a 37-yard field goal by junior
Luke Monteyne as time expired. Hobart starting quarterback sophomore
Jeremy Weiss was 10-of-20 passing for 158 yards. Junior quarterback
Tru Styles was 5-of-8 passing for 73 yards, including a 25-yard TD to sophomore
Johnny Harding. Harding finished with five catches for 65 yards. Senior linebacker

After going three-and-out on their first possession, the Engineers (4-1, 2-0) scored on their next six possessions, leading 7-0 at the end of the first quarter, 23-3 at halftime and 30-3 less than five minutes into the second half.

Senior Aleks Maric was 3-for-3 on field goal attempts, converting from 28, 29 and 38 yards. Junior Matt Krauza and senior Miles Lafferty shared team-high honors with six tackles apiece.
DeMatteo opened the scoring late in the first quarter. On first-and-goal from the 4, he dropped back to pass, started to run up the middle and at the last moment saw junior Dalton Grant open in the back of the end zone for a TD.
Hobart countered with a promising drive that including a 14-yard completion from Weiss to Harding, a 14-yard run by Taylor and an 18-yard pass from Weiss to
Jordan Nolan to set up a first-and-10 at the RPI 15. The next snap sailed over Weiss' head and the loose ball was recovered by the visitors to quell the threat.
The Engineers returned to the end zone seven plays later on a 5-yard run by White.
The final numbers were very similar. RPI produced 394 yards of offense to Hobart's 340. They would have been even closer if not for the 23-yard loss on the wild snap and a 28-yard loss on a strip sack of Weiss in the second quarter.
The Statesmen were never able to get on track as the game was stopped several times for injured Hobart players. The Statesmen were flagged seven times for 70 yards and turned the ball over three times.
Hobart (1-4, 0-2) will travel to Union (3-2, 2-0) next week. Kickoff at Frank Bailey Field in Schenectady is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11.
