Herons swim past Saxons in home opener

GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith swimming and diving team hosted Alfred University this afternoon in its home opener in Bristol Pool. The Herons put together a strong showing, highlighted by several first-place finishes to close out the nonconference meet on top 160-131. With the win, the Herons improve to 2-2 on the season.

Junior Mackenzie Morus led the way with a win in the 500-yard freestyle (5:47.91) and a second-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley (2:25.37). 

First-year Aurora Donta-Venman also impressed, taking second in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:53.90) and contributing on the Herons' "B" relay team. Sophomore Bogi Olah added a first-place performance in the 200-yard backstroke (2:25.84), while classmate Amalia Olivieri finished second in the 50-yard freestyle (26.79) and fourth in the 100 free (59.76).

From the diving board, sophomore Fiona Garfield swept both the one- and three-meter events with scores of 205.65 and 240.45, respectively. Fellow diver Hannah Walsh earned second on the one-meter board with 203.35 points.

UP NEXT:

William Smith will be back in action Saturday, Nov. 1, as it welcomes Herkimer County Community College to Geneva. Action is set to begin at 1 p.m. in Bristol Pool.
