#1 Hobart begins SUNYAC play this weekend

The top-ranked Hobart hockey team will be back in action this weekend when it begins SUNYAC play against Skidmore and Plattsburgh at The Cooler. The Statesmen will play Skidmore on Friday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. and Plattsburgh on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 4 p.m.
 
Friday's game against Skidmore will be Hobart's Wounded Warrior Project/Military Appreciation Night.  The Statesmen will wear special camo jerseys for the occasion. The jerseys will be auctioned off following the game, with the proceeds going to the Wounded Warrior Project. Fans will also be able to participate in a 50/50 raffle with the proceeds going to the WWP. You can also purchase merchandise to help support the WWP here.
 
The Dainty Donuts food truck will also be on site on Friday night. HWS students, faculty and staff will get a free item with their OneCard.
 
Tickets for regular season contests at The Cooler cost $5 and will go on sale 60 minutes before the opening faceoff. Children 12 and under are free, as are HWS students, faculty and staff who present a valid HWS One Card.

ABOUT THE STATESMEN
  • Hobart enters the weekend with a 4-0-0 record. The Statesmen are coming off a weekend sweep of then seventh-ranked Utica last week.
  • Sophomore Arvega Hovsepyan (2g,4a) leads Hobart with six points. He was named the SUNYAC Offensive Athlete of the Week following a three-point performance against Utica.
  • Senior Kahlil Fontana leads the team with three goals. He is one of three Statesmen tied for second on the team with four points each.
  • Senior Damon Beaver has the edge in minutes played. He is 3-0-0 with a 1.36 GAA and a .912 save percentage.
  
ABOUT THE THOROUGHBREDS
  • Skidmore is 1-1-0 overall to start the season. The Thoroughbreds are looking to bounce back from a 4-2 loss to Albertus Magnus last Friday.
  • Shane Baker leads Skidmore with three goals.
  • Jack Bartfield leads the Thoroughbreds with three assists
  • Joshua Seeley and Tommy Aitken both started one game this season. Seeley is 1-0-0 with a 2.00 GAA and a .939 save percentage. Aitken is 0-1-0 with a 3.04 GAA and a .880 save percentage.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Friday will be the 29th meeting between Hobart and Skidmore.
  • The Statesmen lead the all-time series 23-4-1, including a 13-2-0 mark in Geneva.
  • Hobart has won eight straight against the Thoroughbreds, including a sweep in Saratoga Springs last year.
 
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
  • Plattsburgh is 2-0-0 on the season and will be at Oswego on Friday night. The Cardinals had a weekend off after beating Castleton and Plymouth State to open the season.
  • Aaron Catron leads Plattsburgh with four points (2g,2a).
  • Lonan Bulger leads the Cardinals with three assists.
  • Brady Spry and Dominik Bovan have each started one game in goal this year. Spry had a shutout in his collegiate debut, stopping 34 shots.  Bovan has a 1.00 GAA and a .957 save percentage.

SERIES HISTORY
  • Saturday is the 10th meeting between Hobart and Plattsburgh, but the first since 2014.
  • The Cardinals lead the all-time series 7-1-1, including a 1-0-1 mark in Geneva.
