GENEVA, N.Y.—The 16th-ranked Hobart soccer team was edged by Messiah 1-0 in overtime in the first round of the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship on historic Cozzens Field this afternoon

Tommy Chyzowych played all 92:03 minutes in goal for the Statesmen and made three saves.
Patrick Lee scored the goal for the Falcons 2:03 into the extra session. Kessler Forrest went the distance in goal for Messiah and made two saves as he earned the shutout.
FOR THE RECORD
- Hobart concludes their 2025 campaign with a 13-1-5 overall record. It was the Statesmen's best season since 2008.
- With the win, the Falcons are now 12-7-2 overall. Messiah will play Calvin, which beat Grove City 1-0 in two overtimes tomorrow, Nov. 15, at 1 p.m.
THE WINNER
- Lee picked up a loose ball at the top of the 18-yard box, dribbled around a defender, and slotted a shot from the top of the six-yard box into the lower right corner of the cage. It was his ninth goal of the year.
NEAR MISSES
- Messiah appeared to open the scoring in the 18th minute on a goal from Davis Pagett, but the call was overturned because David Rody had been called for a foul.
- At the opposite end of the field, junior La Zai Outerbridge nearly scored, but his shot was smothered by Forrest.
- In the final minute, senior Steven Pickering was robbed of a golden scoring chance by a diving stop from Forrest.
- Noah Fischer had Hobart's best chance in the 69th minute. His shot beat the Messiah goalie, but was kept out of the net by a Messiah defender, who, on the clear attempt, fired a pass off the left goal post.
- In the 77th minute, the Statesmen had a flurry of chances, but Daniel Scali, Outerbridge and Pickering had their attempts blocked by Messiah defenders.
- Messiah had both chances in the extra session.
