Hobart never trails in win at Keuka

Nedd makes bid for triple double

KEUKA PARK, N.Y.—The Hobart basketball never trailed in its 78-65 non-conference win at Keuka tonight. Sophomore Monty Nedd flirted with a triple double, leading the Statesmen with 18 points, seven rebounds and seven steals.

Nedd was 7-of-14 from the floor with three 3-pointers. He also dished out three assists. Junior Alex Moesch finished with 17 points, six boards and a game-high four assists. Junior Dorian Paki logged his first collegiate double-double on 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Sophomore Allen Mordi chipped in 10 points.

Keuka's Lamar Lovelace posted a game-high 20 points and seven rebounds. Akinlana Popoola added 11 points. Kaleb Nutifafa had nine points and a team-high eight boards before fouling out with four minutes left in the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Senior Axel Traina made a 3-pointer to open the game's scoring and from then on, Keuka spent most of the night playing catch up.
  • The Wolves tied the game three times in the early going, but each time, the Statesmen responded.
  • Chase Welch made a 3-pointer for Keuka, tying the game at 16.
  • Hobart seized control with a 13-3 run over the next three minutes. The Statesmen shot 5-of-6 from the floor, including a pair of triples during the run. Nedd netted seven of his points, while first-year Harrison Muntner added four points.
  • The Statesmen led 39-29 at halftime.
  • In the second half, Hobart wasn't able to turn the game into a blowout, but the Statesmen did keep the Wolves at bay, maintaining a lead that never dipped below eight points and expanded to as many as 18.

COACH'S CORNER

"It was a good team effort throughout the game today. We took steps forward as a group. This was the first of four games in eight days, so we need to grow in each of these opportunities to compete." —Hobart Head Coach Stefan Thompson '13

FAST FACT
  • Nedd's seven steals are the most by a Statesman since Trey Blanding had seven against Clarkson on Feb. 25, 2010.

FOR THE RECORD
  • Hobart won its second straight road game to improve to 2-1.
  • Keuka fell to 2-3.
