#1 Hobart begins road trip in North Country

The top-ranked Hobart hockey team will be back in action this weekend in the North Country when it begins a four-game road trip.  The Statesmen will take on Potsdam and Canton in a pair of SUNYAC games. Hobart plays Potsdam on Friday, Nov. 21, at 7 p.m. in Potsdam, New York, and Canton on Saturday, Nov. 22, at 4 p.m. in Canton.
 
Hobart enters the weekend with a 6-0-0 record, including a 2-0-0 mark in SUNYAC play. The Statesmen are coming off a 6-1 win over Skidmore and a 3-0 victory over Plattsburgh to open conference play.
 
The Bears are 3-2-0 and looking to build off a 7-3 victory over their SUNYAC travel partner, the Roos, last Friday. Owen Watson led Potsdam with three goals in the victory.
 
Canton is 4-2-0 to start the year but 0-1-0 in league play after losing to the Bears last week. The Roos have lost two straight since starting the season 4-0-0. Canton beat then No. 7 Trine to open the season.

ABOUT THE STATESMEN
  • Senior Kahlil Fontana leads Hobart with nine points (8g, 1a). He had five goals last weekend, earning SUNYAC Athlete of the Week honors.  
  • Sophomore Arvega Hovsepyan leads the Statesmen with six assists and is second on the team with eight points. 
  • Senior Damon Beaver has the edge in minutes played this season. He is 4-0-0 with a 0.94 GAA and a .946 save percentage.

  • Eli Doughart-Wood leads the Bears with six points (1g, 5a).
  • Ryan Mahlmeister has a team-high four goals.
  • Lenny Perno has played a majority of minutes in the goal this season. He is 3-1-0 with a 2.51 GAA and a .924 save percentage.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Friday will be the 45th meeting between Hobart and Potsdam.
  • The Bears have a 22-21-1 edge in the series, including an 11-8-1 mark in Potsdam.
  • Hobart, however, has won seven straight and 16 of the last 17 meetings.
  • On Nov. 2, 2024, Hobart scored four times in the third period as they cruised to a 6-0 victory over Potsdam in Geneva.

  • Niko Schoner leads Canton with nine points (3g, 6a).
  • Colton Alexander is right behind him with seven points (2g, 5a).
  • Spencer Sasenbury leads the Roos with four goals.
  • Kelson Hooper and Trey Miller have split time in goal this season. Hooper has a 1.25 GAA and a .951 save percentage. Miller has a 2.34 GAA and a .929 save percentage.
