Herons host #13 Oswego, Canton this weekend

The William Smith hockey team returns to The Cooler this weekend, Nov. 21-22, for games against 13th-ranked Oswego State and Canton. Fridays's game against the Lakers is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. The following afternoon, the Herons and the Roos will face off at 4 p.m.
 
The Herons, who are receiving votes in this week's USCHO.com Poll, are off to a 3-1-0 start to their season. This is the first time since 2020 that William Smith has received recognition in the organizations poll. The Herons opened SUNYAC play last week with a 1-1-0 record, falling to then eighth-ranked Plattsburgh 4-0 and beating Potsdam 3-1.
 
The Lakers, who are 13th-ranked in the USCHO.com poll, enter the weekend with a 4-2-0 overall record and a 2-0-0 mark in conference play after beating Cortland 3-2 and Morrisville 6-1 last weekend.
 
The Roos are 5-1-0 overall with a 1-1-0 mark in conference play. Canton is also receiving a vote in this week's USCHO.com poll. The Roos beat Morrisville 2-1 and dropped a game to Cortland 5-0 to open conference play.

ABOUT THE HERONS
  • Sophomore Bella Hacker leads the team with four points (2g, 2a).
  • First-year Finley Crosby, sophomore Madeline Diglio, junior Laine Heiser, and senior Kelly Howe are all tied with two points on one goal and one assist.
  • Junior Mia Iwicki has played the majority of the minutes in goal. She is 2-1-0 with a 1.67 GAA, a .955 save percentage and one shutout.
 
ABOUT THE LAKERS
  • Georgia Cunliffe leads Oswego with four goals and five points.
  • Jenna Majewski is tied with Cunliffe with four goals.
  • Katie Demers and Helen VanDamme have a team-high three assists.
  • Goaltender Mia DeVivo has played all of the minutes for the Lakers. She has a 1.34 GAA, a .940 save percentage, and one shutout.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Friday will be the 14th meeting between the Herons and the Lakers.
  • Oswego leads the all-time series, 10-3-1, including a 5-2-0 mark in Geneva.
  • Last year, the teams opened the season with a home-and-home series against each other. The Lakers won both games 2-1.
 
ABOUT THE ROOS
  • Lucy Beal leads Canton with eight points on eight assists.
  • Chamonix Jackson has five goals and an assist.
  • Four different goalies have played for Canton this season. Alyssa Townsley and Molly Lenihan have played the most minutes. Townsley is 2-0-0 with a 0.50 GAA and .944 save percentage. Lenihan is 1-1-0 with a 3.00 GAA and a .887 save percentage.
  • Canton will be at Buffalo St. on Friday.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • This will be the second meeting between William Smith and Canton.
  • The Herons won the only other meeting 4-1 back in 2017.
  • This will be the Roos first trip to Geneva.
