The fourth-seeded William Smith field hockey team is set to host fifth-seeded Rochester Tuesday, Nov. 4, in the first round of the Liberty League Tournament. Action between the Herons and the Yellowjackets is set for 5 p.m. on McCooey Field. The winner of the game will advance to the semifinal round at top-seeded Vassar on Friday, Nov. 7.

Additionally, two Herons were recognized by the Liberty League for their efforts last week. Sophomore
Ana Dios Vidal was named the Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week, while graduate student
Rebecca Mantione earned a spot on the weekly honor roll. Dios Vidal scored the game-winner in double overtime against Rochester to clinch a spot in the Liberty League playoffs. She then added an assist in a 6-0 win over Oswego State. Mantione tallied five points on two goals and an assist against the Lakers.
ABOUT THE HERONS:
- William Smith finished the regular season fourth in Liberty League standings. The Herons enter postseason play at 11-8 overall with a 4-3 mark in conference play.
- Mantione leads the Herons with 24 points on nine goals and six assists. Senior Lily Gutch follows with 18 points on eight goals and two assists. Sophomore Caroline Kogut adds 15 points on five goals and five assists.
- Defensively, William Smith is led by sophomore Hadley Harbert with three defensive saves. Junior Leah Griffith and Kogut have added two defensive saves each.
- First-year Olivia Terranova has played the majority of minutes in the goal for the Herons this season and is 8-6 with a 1.63 GAA and a .728 save percentage.Â
ABOUT THE YELLOWJACKETS:
- Rochester brings a 13-6 overall record to Geneva and is 4-3 in conference play. The Yellowjackets finished fifth in the league standings after falling in the tiebreaker with Ithaca and William Smith.
- Erin Foley leads the team with 14 points on six goals and two assists. Grayson Honig follows with 13 points on six goals and one assist.
- Defensively, Cassidy Romano leads the team with three defensive saves. Kyla Byer adds two defensive saves for Rochester.
- Kara Houston has played the majority of minutes in goal with a 13-6 record, a 0.91 GAA, and an .862 save percentage.
SERIES HISTORY:
- Tuesday will be the 64th meeting between the Herons and the Yellowjackets. William Smith holds a 46-16-1 advantage in the series, including a 27-6 edge in Geneva.
- Last week, on Oct. 29, William Smith defeated Rochester 1-0 in Geneva. Dios Vidal scored the goal for the Herons in the second overtime to give the Herons the win. Terranova made four saves for her second shutout of the season.
