GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart first-year
Gabe Smith scored in the 81st minute as the 16th-ranked Hobart soccer team defeated Union 1-0 in a Liberty League Semifinal on Cozzens Field this afternoon. With the win, the Statesmen advance to the Liberty League Championship game on Sunday.

Tommy Chyzowych played all 90 minutes in goal for Hobart and made one save as he earned his seventh shutout.
Jacob Perry played all 90 minutes in goal for Union. He made five stops.
FOR THE RECORD
- With the victory, Hobart improves to 12-0-5 on the season.
- Union concludes their season with a 7-6-6 record.

- Hobart dominated the stat sheet. The Statesmen finished the game with an 18-4 advantage in shots.
- Hobart had 10 corner kicks in the game, and Union had one.
THE WINNER
- Smith collected a through ball from fellow first-year Daniel Scali and chipped a shot past Perry's outstretched hands and into the right corner of the cage. It was Smith's third goal of the season.
NEAR MISSES
- The Statesmen pressured the Union defense right out of the gate. In the second minute, Scali had a shot punched aside by Perry. Thirty seconds later, senior Quinn Phillips was robbed by a diving save from the Union keeper.
- Chyzowych's lone save in the game came in the ninth minute when he robbed Grant Della Roca on a free kick attempt.
- Hobart turned up the pressure in the second half. Sophomore Brady Leitner nearly converted in the 52nd minute, but his shot was turned aside at the last second by a diving stop from Perry.
- In the 66th minute, Leitner again had a golden scoring opportunity turned aside by a diving Perry.

Hobart will be back in action on Sunday, Nov. 9, when they host the Liberty League title game. The opponent and game time were not known at the time of publication.
