12/4/2025 1:07:00 PM

William Smith senior midfielder Ruth Hotaling was named to the 2025 United Soccer Coaches All-America third team today. This is the second straight year that Hotaling has earned All-America recognition.

Since 1987, the Herons have had 43 players earn 59 All-America awards from the United Soccer Coaches. Hotaling is the first repeat All-American since Megan Barwick '19 (2017, 2018).

The awards continue to pile up for Hotaling. The 2025 Liberty League Player of the Year was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region III first team on Tuesday. Hotaling was also a first team All-Liberty League selection. She was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team and the Liberty League All-Academic team this year.

A starter in all 17 games this season, Hotaling led the Liberty League with 12 goals and 25 points. She produced three multi-goal games this season. She had both of William Smith's goals in a 2-0 win at Skidmore and notched two goals against DeSales and Clarkson. Hotaling's three-point game (1g, 1a) at RIT started a six-game scoring streak that saw her score three of her team-leading four game-winning goals on the season. Hotaling was named the Liberty League Offensive Performer of the Week twice this season.

Hotaling moves up to the third team after earning fourth team recognition as a junior. The Delmar, New York, native was a four-year starter for the Herons. In 83 career games, she racked up 77 points on 26 goals and 25 assists. Hotaling finished 19th on William Smith's career points list and seventh on the assists list. Hotaling's 12 assists as a junior are third on the Herons' single-season list.

Hotaling and the Herons finished the season with an 11-3-3 overall record. William Smith went 7-1-1 in Liberty League play, finishing second in the conference standings. Hotaling and her classmates helped the Herons to a 56-10-17 overall record in their four seasons in Geneva. The Herons made three appearances in the NCAA tournament, including a trip to the national championship game in 2024.
