HWS Squash hosts Chatham, Denison this weekend

The Hobart and William Smith squash teams will be back in action this weekend for their home opening matches against Chatham and Denison this weekend, Dec. 6-7. The Statesmen and Herons will face the Cougars on Saturday at 11 a.m. Matches will continue at the Smith Squash Center on Sunday when HWS takes on the Big Red at 10 a.m.

ABOUT THE STATESMEN
  • Hobart is 0-2 after facing two top-25 teams to open the season.
  • First Year Ciao Paiva earned his first collegiate win playing in the No. 2 spot versus Hamilton in Hobart's first match.
  • Senior captain Javier De La Vega is Hobart's leading returner with 26 career wins.
 
ABOUT THE HERONS
  • William Smith is also 0-2 after opening the season against Hamilton and Middlebury.
  • In their season opener, senior captain Jada Smith-Padmore picked up her first win of the season.
  •  Smith-Padmore has 35 wins in her career.
 
ABOUT THE COUGARS
  • The Chatham men's squash team is 2-5 overall this season and ranked 24th in the CSA Team Rankings.  
  • The Cougars posted one win in the PA State Championship in November over Haverford. Chatham also has a win over St. Lawrence this season.  
  • Abdelrahman Sadek leads the Cougars with four wins.
  • Chatham will play the University of Rochester on Friday, Nov. 5, before traveling to Geneva.
  • The women's squash team is 0-5 this season.
  • Sofia Pinto Combita and Clara Braga share the team lead with two wins each.
 
ABOUT THE BIG RED
  • The Denison men's squash team is 1-3 overall. The Big Red split matches on Nov. 8, first beating Fordham 8-1 and then falling to Navy 9-0.
  • Juan Felipe Hernandez has two wins at the No. 1 spot for the Big Red. Wylly Molten leads the team with three victories.  
  • The women's squash team is 0-2 after competing against Virginia and Georgetown to open the year.
  • Charlotte Jones plays the No. 1 spot for the Big Red and earned her first win of the season against her opponent from Georgetown.
  • Before competing against HWS, both teams from Denison will travel to Clinton, New York, to face Hamilton and Vassar on Saturday.
