GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart squash team opened up its home slate against 24th-ranked Chatham and Denison at the Smith Squash Center this weekend. The Cougars won 8-1 and Denison won 9-0.
FOR THE RECORD
- Hobart is now 0-4 overall on the year.
AGAINST THE COUGARS
- Chatham was the third straight nationally ranked opponent for the Statesmen to start the season.
- The Cougars won six matches in 3-0 sweeps.
- Senior Javier De La Vega had the closest match for the Statesmen in the No. 2 spot. He was edged, 11-6, 11-6, 6-11,9-11, 11-8.
- Miles Mackey earned Hobart's point when his opponent defaulted.
AGAINST THE BIG RED
- Denison took the match with six 3-0 sweeps.
- In the No. 3 spot, Gabriel Garcia put up a strong fight, but was edged, 7-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-6.
- De La Vega had a tight match in the No. 2 spot, but was defeated by Charlie Fenwick IV, 11-4, 11-8, 5-11, 15-13.
UP NEXT
Hobart will be back in action next month, January 8-15, when it heads to New England for six matches. The Statesmen will take on Colby, Bowdoin, Bates, Brown, Connecticut College and Wesleyan during the trip.
