#1 Statesmen bounce back, down Falcons 4-2

NEW HAVEN, Conn.—The top-ranked Hobart hockey team scored three goals in the third period as it knocked off Albertus Magnus 4-2 in a New England Hockey Conference contest at the Ralph Walker Arena this afternoon. With the victory, Hobart is now 18-1-0 this season with a 13-1-0 mark in NEHC play.
 
Senior Luke Aquaro (1g, 1a) and graduate student Austin Mourar (2a) led the way for Hobart with two points each. Junior Mavrick Goyer made 22 saves as he earned the win.  
 
Tyler Ignazzitto and Robert Barrasso scored for the Falcons (11-7-1, 8-5-1). Matt Lenz started in goal and made 47 saves, one off his season high.
 
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Hobart finished the game with a 51-22 advantage in shots on goal.
  • The Statesmen were 3-for-6 on the power play and Albertus Magnus was 0-for-4 with the man advantage.
 
SCORING SUMMARY
  • Hobart opened the scoring at the 13:56 mark of the first period. Aquaro snapped a shot from the slot past Lenz for his 10th goal of the season. The power-play goal was assisted by junior Tanner Daniels and Mourar.
  • Ignazzitto tied the game at the 2:38 mark of the second period. He tucked a shot past Goyer for his fifth goal of the season. His tally was assisted by Akezhan Melis and Andrew Van Antwerp.
  • Sophomore Bauer Morrissey gave Hobart a 2-1 lead at the 2:50 mark of the second period. He wristed a shot from the left faceoff circle past Lenz for his third goal of the season. The power-play goal was set up by fellow sophomore Conor Lally.
  • Two minutes later, Senior Shane Shell tacked on a power-play goal to give the Statesmen a two-goal lead. His fourth goal of the year was assisted by Aquaro and Mourar.
  • Barrasso's third goal of the season made it a one-goal game with just over six minutes remaining in regulation. Maksim Tseglnik and JJ Berdal set up the goal.
  • Sophomore Chris Duclair sealed the victory with an empty-net goal. Junior Kahlil Fontana had the assist.
 
CLIMBING THE LADDER
  • With a goal and an assist tonight, Aquaro now has 122 points for his career. He is now two points behind Scott Liming '83 who is fifth on Hobart's career list.
  • Aquaro now has 64 goals for his career. He is tied for fourth with Phil McCarthy '91.
  • Aquaro's 58 assists are tied for 11th on Hobart's all-time list.
 
UP NEXT
Hobart will be back in action next weekend, Feb. 7-8, when it welcomes the University of Southern Maine to begin a four-game homestand.
