Raptors make late push to top Statesmen

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart basketball team trailed by as many as 15 points in the first half, but rallied to take a 52-50 lead with just under seven minutes remaining in its Liberty League game against Bard this afternoon. The Raptors were able to regain the momentum to take a 76-60 win in Bristol Gym.

Senior Pat Healy led Hobart with 20 points in his final regular season home game. He was 7-of-13 shooting overall, including 4-of-8 from 3-point range. Healy was joined in double figures by sophomore Dorian Paki, who posted 14 points and a team-high five rebounds. Sophomore Alex Moesch added 11 points, including three 3-pointers, and first-year Monty Nedd scored 10 points.

Bard also had four players hit double figures. Lazaros Panagiotounis logged a double-double on 23 points and 10 rebounds. Ahmad Rauf and Azriel Almodovar each added 14 points and Sean Wilcox scored 10 points. Almodovar also chipped in a game-high five assists.

  • The Raptors also made more free throws (23) than the Statesmen attempted (17).

  • Those numbers allowed the Raptors to overcome 21 turnovers.
  • Hobart played a heavy role in those miscues, producing a season-high 18 steals (5th on Hobart's single game list). It's the most steals in a game by the Statesmen since they had 18 against Clarkson on Feb. 14, 2009.
  • Senior Hunter Meshanic and Nedd were the chief thieves with five and four steals, respectively.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Bard jumped out to a 10-2 lead forcing Hobart to call a timeout just over two minutes into the game.
  • The Raptors still led by seven when an 8-point scoring burst stretched their lead to 28-13 with five and a half minutes to go to halftime.
  • Hobart managed to take a bite out of that lead, going into the break down 32-24 after a Meshanic steal lead to a fast break layup for Healy in the final minute.
  • Trailing 41-29 with 13 minutes remaining in the game, the Statesmen got on a roll.
  • A Moesch 3-pointer kick-started a 23-9 Hobart run. Healy scored nine points during the surge, hitting a 3-pointer that gave the Statesmen a 52-50 lead with 6:43 remaining.
  • Bard regained its composure, scoring the next seven points to retake the lead for good.
