Rowan Kennedy scored the game-tying goal with 41 seconds remaining in regulation.
Senior goalie
Erin Murray played just under 62 minutes in goal for William Smith. She made 21 saves. Veronika Hadamovsky played all 65 minutes in goal making 30 saves.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- William Smith finished the game with a 31-22 advantage in shots on goal. That included a 15-6 edge in the final 25 minutes of the game.
- The Herons were 0-for-2 on the power play and the Beacons were 0-for-3 with the extra attacker.
MATCH MOMENTS
- UMass Boston had the edge in the opening frame, finishing with a 10-6 edge in shots.
- In the second period William Smith held the advantage with a 10-6 margin in shots on goal.
- Neither goalie flinched though as both netminders had 16 saves through 40 minutes.
- Needing a win in regulation to clinch a home playoff game, William Smith pulled the goalie with three minutes remaining in the game.
- The Beacons took advantage of the gamble just over a minute later. Fresh off the bench, Margeaux Butters fired a shot from center ice into the empty cage. It was an unassisted goal.
- The Herons kept the net empty and tied the game 56 seconds later. Rowan Kennedy fired a shot from the slot past the goalie. Her third goal of the season was assisted by Tara Valas.
- William Smith controlled the extra session, outshooting UMass 5-2 in overtime.
- Valas also rang a shot off of the goal post one minute into the extra period.
THE SHOOTOUT
- William Smith picked up their second shootout victory this season, posting a 2-1 victory.
- Both teams first shooters missed.
- Graduate student Mackenzie O'Neil and Cassidy Morrison converted in Round 2 to make it 1-1.
- The goalies made saves in Rounds 3-4 to keep it 1-1.
- In Round 5, Kayla Ketchabaw scored and then Murray made a save to give William Smith the shootout win.
CENTURY CLUB
- Today was Ketchabaw's 100th career game. She is the 11th Heron to play in 100 career games.
FOR THE RECORD
- William Smith concludes the regular season with a 10-13-2 overall record and a 10-7-1 mark in conference play.
- UMass Boston is 10-13-2 with a 9-7-2 mark in NEHC play.
- The Beacons finished fourth in the conference standings with 31 points and the Herons placed fifth with 30 points.

William Smith will be back in action next Saturday, Feb. 22, when it heads back to Boston to take on the Beacons at Edward T. Barry Rink in a NEHC Quarterfinal contest. Faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
