Hobart wins twice at Mideast Championships, advances to National Championships

Patton, Hine and Ross named to USCSA Mideast Conference First Team

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y – The Hobart Alpine skiing team was back in action this weekend, Feb 22-23, as it competed in the Mideast Conference Championships on Bristol Mountain. Hobart finished first overall after winning both the giant slalom and slalom events. First-year Will Patton continued his dominant rookie season, finishing first overall with 17.47 points, while sophomore Ethan Hine continued to impress with a second-place overall finish with 23.44 points.

Saturday's giant slalom included 47 racers and featured three Statesmen in the top 10. Hine took first place, with a combined time of 1:55.63. Patton finished third with a combined time of 1:57.63, while first-year Jake Labanowski finished in eighth place after stopping the clock at 2:00.29.

Sunday's slalom race featured 44 racers and saw Hobart produce the top two finishers. Patton took first place with a time of 1:30.63, while Hine took second place with a combined time of 1:33.54. Junior John Meagher and Labanowski also finished in the top 20 with times of 1:41.38 (15th) and 1:41.89 (19th), respectively.

Along with its first-place finish at the Regional Championships, Hobart finished first in Mideast Conference regular season standings. The Statesmen earned three of the conferences five All-Conference awards as Patton, Hine and junior Jack Ross were all named to the Mideast Conference First Team. Additionally, Patton earned the 2025 Mideast Conference Male Fastest Racer award given to the top racer in the conference.

UP NEXT:

The Statesmen have officially punched their ticket to the USCSA National Championships and will head to Bend, Oregon, March 10-15, to compete on Mt. Bachelor. It is the first time in program history that both Hobart and William Smith Alpine skiing teams have qualified for the national championships in the same season.
