#1 Hobart begins homestand against Southern Maine

The top-ranked Hobart hockey team will be back in action this weekend, Feb. 7-8, when it hosts Southern Maine in The Cooler to begin a four-game homestand. Both games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and are a part of a doubleheader with William Smith, which will take on Salve Regina at 4 p.m.
 
On Friday, from 5 p.m. until 8:30 p.m., the Macarollin' food truck will be outside The Cooler. HWS students, faculty and staff with a valid One Card will get one free entrée courtesy of the SAA.
 
Hobart is coming off a weekend split with Albertus Magnus. On Friday, the Falcons won 3-2 in overtime, handing the Statesmen their first loss of the season. The next day, Hobart bounced back with a 4-2 win.
 
Southern Maine enters the week on a four-game losing streak. Last week, they dropped a pair of games at Skidmore.
 
MEDIA COVERAGE  
ABOUT THE STATESMEN (18-1-0, 13-1-0 NEHC)
  • Hobart enters the weekend first in the NEHC standings with 40 points. The Statesmen are the only team in the league to have secured a playoff berth entering the weekend.
  • Junior Tanner Daniels leads the Statesmen with 11 goals, 15 assists and 26 points. Daniels is ranked 13th in the nation in points per game (1.37) and 21st in goals per game (0.63).
  • Senior Luke Aquaro has 10 goals and 12 assists.
  • Juniors Damon Beaver and Mavrick Goyer have split time in goal this season. Beaver is 9-1-0 with a 1.20 GAA and a .952 save percentage. Goyer is 9-0-0 with a 1.11 GAA and a .944 save percentage.
 
NATIONAL NUMBERS
  • Hobart is first in the nation in scoring defense (1.16), scoring margin (+3.32) and winning percentage (.947).
  • The Statesmen are third in the nation in scoring offense (4.47) and penalty-killing percentage (.891). Hobart is sixth in power-play percentage (.304).
 
ABOUT THE HUSKIES (5-13-1, 2-11-1 NEHC)
  • Southern Maine is 11th in the conference standings with six points.
  • Matt Sullivan leads the Huskies with nine assists and 14 points.
  • Sullivan is tied for the team lead with Gavin Simoppoulos with five goals.
  • Kyle Penton and Mason Palmer have split time in goal. Penton is 4-5-1 with a 3.16 GAA and a .915 save percentage. Palmer is 1-8-0 with a 4.31 GAA and a .879 save percentage.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • This weekend will be the 16th and 17th meetings between the Statesmen and the Huskies.
  • Hobart leads the all-time series 14-1-0. The Statesmen have won all eight meetings in Geneva.
  • Hobart swept all three games last year, outscoring the Huskies 23-3.
