GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa.—The Hobart baseball team split a pair of games on opening day of the 2025 season at Genuardi Field today. The Statesmen fell 4-0 to Penn State Abington in their opener, but rebounded with an 11-inning 8-2 victory over Gwynedd Mercy.
Sophomore
Sean Garvin and junior
Nate Garrett led the offense. Garvin collected three hits and three RBI, while Garrett had two hits, including a triple. Senior
Nicholas Franceschi got the win in Game 2 with three innings of no-hit relief work.
GAME 1
- Mike Nasti and James Torpey combined to shutout Hobart, limiting the Statesmen to just three hits.
- Shane Fillman drove home three of the four runs for the Nittany Lions (1-4).
- He hit an RBI double in the first inning, a solo home run in the third and an RBI single in the fifth.
- Junior Teck Nash threw 6 1/3 innings as Hobart's starter, striking out five while allowing three runs.
GAME 2
- Sophomore Trevor Kimball got the start against the Griffins. He went 6 innings, allowing two runs.
- Gwynedd Mercy manufactured a pair of runs in the third inning. The Griffins got their first run on a bases loaded sacrifice fly and added a second when Sam Junker got picked off first, but Chris Nodeland was able to scramble home before the out was recorded.
- Hobart got one run back in the top of the fourth when Garrett tripled and Garvin followed with a sac fly to right.
- The Statesmen tied the game in the top of the eighth when Garvin delivered another sac fly, scoring Nate Johnson.
- The game stayed tied until the 11th when Hobart got to the Gwynedd Mercy bullpen.
- The Statesmen loaded the bases to start the inning and junior Drew Bolduc broke the deadlock with a single up the middle scoring sophomore Cole Conte.
- Jackson Fowle, Jack Farnen and Garvin drew bases loaded walks to add to the lead, while Johnson added an RBI single.
- Franceschi faced two batters over the minimum over the final three innings. He struck out four without allowing a hit.

- Hobart (1-1) will complete its three-game stay in Gwynedd Valley with another duel with the Griffins (3-3).
