Bowlers face elite competition at Music City Classic

SMYRNA, Tenn.—The William Smith bowling team faced an elite field at the Music City Classic hosted by Vanderbilt over the weekend. The 31-team field included 17 teams ranked in the latest NTCA Top 25 and eight of the top 10.
 
On Friday, each team played five Baker matches. Day 2 was filled with five traditional matches. The tournament concluded on Sunday with another traditional match and Best of 7 Baker matches for position.
 
William Smith went 0-5 on Day 1, drawing three teams ranked in the top 10, No. 2 Arkansas State, No. 6 Arkansas State and No. 7 Sam Houston. The Herons posted a 2-3 record on Day 2, defeating UIndy and Alabama A&M. William Smith opened play on Sunday with a 767-641 win over Quincy. The Herons lost to Aurora 4-2 in the first round of Baker 7s to place 28th overall.
 
Senior Michaela Morgan led the team with 1,033 pins in six traditional matches. Her 172.17 average placed her 82nd out of more than 200 bowlers. Sophomore Colleen Jump also bowled a 200-game, notching a 202 against UIndy.
 
The Herons will travel to Pittsburgh for their next tournament, the 2025 AMCC Championship. William Smith is the No. 2 seed and earned a first round bye. The Herons will play their first match at 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 21.
