#37 Statesmen down Flying Dutch 6-1

ORLANDO, Fla.— The 37th-ranked Hobart tennis team closed out its spring break trip with its third-straight win as it defeated Hope this morning, 6-1. The Statesmen move to 4-3 with the win, while the Flying Dutch fall to 2-9 on the season.

Hobart secured the doubles point with wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. At No. 1, senior Nick Grosso and junior Nick Fischer defeated Ned Curley and Austin Becksvoort 6-3 to move to 2-1 in the No. 1 position this season. At No. 3, seniors Rahul Vallabhajosula and Hyat Oyer took down Paul Schneider and Elliot Dozeman 6-3 to clinch the doubles point. The duo is now 4-0 this season in the No. 3 spot.

The Statesmen carried their momentum into singles play, winning five of six matches against the Flying Dutch. Fischer led the charge in the No. 1 position, defeating Cooper Nugent 7-5, 6-2. At No. 2, Oyer edged out Curley in a competitive match, 7-6, 6-3.

Grosso continued his strong play in the No. 3 spot, defeating Schneider 6-2, 6-1 for his third straight win. At No. 5, senior Troy Steiner battled to a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Karsten Patel.

First-year Marco Olmos took down Becksvoort 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 6 spot. Olmos is now 5-2 in his rookie season and has won three straight heading into conference play.

UP NEXT: 

Hobart will be back in action on Saturday, March 22, when it travels to Vassar in its Liberty League opener. First serve between the Statesmen and the Brewers is set for 2 p.m. at Cretella Tennis Courts.
