Hobart’s 9th inning rally falls short

HENRIETTA, N.Y.—The Hobart baseball team scored three ninth inning runs, but couldn't find the equalizer, falling in its Liberty League opener 4-3 at RIT this afternoon.

For 8 2/3 innings, RIT graduate student John Arnold kept the Hobart bats in check. He allowed just four hits and walked three while striking out 10. Meanwhile, his offense backed his strong start with two runs in the third and two more in the seventh.

Down to their final out with a runner on first, pinch hitter Drew Bolduc drew a walk. Classmate Isaiah Pinto was sent into to run for Bolduc. Hobart executed a double steal and then first-year Jack Farnen delivered an infield single deep in the hole at short, bringing home the Statesmen's first run. Junior Jackson Fowle added a pinch hit RBI single to right. First-year Jackson Rucker ran for Fowle and stole second. When the throw from the catcher ended up in center field, Pinto scored and Rucker advanced to third. The winning run was stranded 90 feet away.

Hobart starter, junior Teck Nash threw 6 2/3 innings striking out five with only one walk. The Tigers got to him for eight hits and four runs.

Adam Marsh singled into shallow right field, bringing home two runs in the third. In the seventh, Jackson Rusiecki singled to center to double the home team's lead.
