SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The eighth-ranked William Smith lacrosse team scored six goals in the second quarter as it raced to a 15-9 victory at Skidmore in a Liberty League contest on Wachenheim Field this afternoon. With the win, William Smith improves to 6-3 overall this season with a 3-0 mark in Liberty League play.

Katherine Murray led the Herons with six points on four goals and two assists. Sophomore
Kira Fulton added two goals and three assists. In total five players recorded multi-goal games. Junior
Natalie Daniels led the way with 14 draw controls. Senior
Maura Smeader played all 60 minutes in goal and made 10 saves as she earned the win.
Julia Cafasso and Jillian Lockwood led the way for the Thoroughbreds (5-6, 2-3) with three points each. Cafasso had two goals and an assist and Lockwood had three goals. Annie Campbell had a game-high four caused turnovers and three ground balls. Maggie Hough played all 60 minutes in goal for Skidmore and made 12 saves.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- William Smith finished the game with a 33-24 advantage in shots and dominated the draw circle 20-7.
- Skidmore won the ground ball battle 16-12.
- The Herons were 18-of-19 on its clear attempts and the Thoroughbreds were 18-for-20.
SCORING SUMMARY
- After eight minutes of strong defensive play, Skidmore opened the scoring with 7:13 left in the first quarter. Lockwood cut around a defender and ripped a shot past Smeader for her 12th goal of the season.
- Less than a minute later, the Herons tied the game on Fulton's 16th goal of the season.
- Junior Taryn Luzi gave William Smith a 2-1 lead with 4:37 left in the opening frame. Her seventh goal of the season was assisted by junior Delaney Cassidy.
- The Thoroughbreds scored the final two goals of the first quarter. Cafasso and Lockwood scored to make it 3-2 with 13 seconds remaining in the opening frame.
- William Smith went on a 6-1 to start the second quarter and seized control of the game.
- Senior Kate Colvin started the run. Her fifth goal of the season was assisted by Fulton. Three minutes later Murray buried her team-leading 23rd goal of the year.
- With 7:52 left in the half, Colvin gave William Smith a 5-3 lead off a feed from Murray. The tally started a sequence of three goals in 90 seconds for the Herons. Murray converted on a free position attempt to make it 6-3 and then completed her hat trick with 6:27 left in the half.
- Skidmore momentarily halted the Herons' momentum when Lily Schwartzman scored a woman-up goal to make it 7-4. Her tally was assisted by Phoebe Ross.
- Luzi notched her second goal of the game one minute later, making it 8-4. Fulton had a helper on the tally.
- Grace deBenedictus had the final goal of the first half.
- In the third quarter, the teams traded goals. Murray, sophomore Mia Falco and sophomore Kayla Quirk had the tallies for William Smith. Murray's tally was assisted by Fulton, Falco's tally was on a free position attempt and Quirk beat her defender to rip a shot past the Skidmore goalie.
- Schwartzman and Cafasso had the goals for Skidmore. Schwartzman's tally was set up by Cafasso and Cafasso's tally was on a free position attempt.
- William Smith scored three of the first four goals of the fourth quarter to take a 13-8 lead with 8:39 remaining in regulation. Quirk opened the frame with her seventh goal of the season. Fulton and Cassidy also scored during the run. Fulton's goal was her 17th of the season and Cassidy's free position tally was her third.
- Lockwood completed her hat trick early in the fourth quarter. Lily Hudner made it 14-9 with just under five minutes remaining in regulation.
- First-year Lauren Collins rounded out the scoring. Her second collegiate goal was assisted by Murray.

- Daniels' 14 draw controls in today's game were second on William Smith's single-game list.
- She now has 278 career draw controls, second on William Smith's career list.
