GOSHEN, N.Y.— The Hobart tennis team extended its winning streak to four-straight this afternoon with a dominant performance against Bard at the Match Point Tennis Complex. The Statesmen defeated the Raptors 5-0, improving to 8-7 overall with a 3-1 record in conference play. Bard falls to 2-7 overall and 0-6 in the Liberty League.
In doubles play, Hobart swept the first two matches to secure the point. At No. 1, seniors Hyat Oyer and Rahul Vallabhajosula blanked Thanasis Kostikas and Yasha Khan, 6-0. The duo is on a four-match winning streak and is 9-3 in dual matches this season. At No. 2, first-years Kristen Weigt and Marco Olmos also delivered a 6-0 win over August Johnson and Ciaran Chamberlain. The third doubles match was not played once Hobart clinched the point.
In singles action, the Statesmen continued their dominant play, winning all four singles matches. At No. 1, Oyer continued to impress with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Kostikas. He is now 9-6 in dual matches this season. Vallabhajosula followed at No. 2 with a convincing 6-1, 6-1 win over Khan.
With the match clinched, the remaining singles were played as pro sets. Olmos rolled past Johnson at No. 3, 8-1, while Weigt shut out Chamberlain, 8-0, at No. 4. Olmos is now 7-8 in dual matches this season, while Weigt earned the first dual match win of his collegiate career.
