ITHACA, N.Y.— The Hobart tennis team closed out the regular season with a thrilling 4-3 win over Ithaca this afternoon at the Reis Tennis Center, securing the second seed in the Liberty League postseason tournament. With the win, the Statesmen improve to 11-8 on the season with a 6-2 mark in conference play, while the Bombers fall to 6-9 overall and 4-4 in the Liberty League.
In doubles action, Hobart started strong and swept all three matches to claim the doubles point. At No. 1, senior Nick Grosso and junior Nick Fischer defeated Siddharth Vaada and Ivan Kisic 6-1 for their third straight win.
In the No. 2 spot, seniors Hyat Oyer and Rahul Vallabhajosula earned their team-leading 12th dual match win of the season as they grabbed a 6-1 victory over Siddharth Desai and Gijs Fidler. To complete the sweep, seniors Jacob Linares and Troy Steiner extended their win streak to three straight as they earned a 7-5 win at No. 3 against Luis Crespo and Ean Lantzy.
In singles play, the Statesmen secured three wins to clinch the match. At No. 1, Oyer battled to defeat Fidler, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. He is now 12-7 in dual match singles play this season.
In the No. 2 spot, Fischer improved to 9-7 on the season as he rallied for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 win over Vaada. First-year Marco Olmos secured the match for Hobart at No. 6, earning a hard-fought 4-6, 7-6 (11-9), 6-3 victory over Lantzy. Olmos was down 6-1 in the second set before storming back to defeat Lantzy 7-6 (11-9) to force a third set. He is now 9-6 in dual match singles play in his rookie season.

Hobart will return to action next weekend for the Liberty League Tournament at the Reis Tennis Center. The Statesmen secured the No. 2 seed, earning a first-round bye and will face the winner of third-seeded RIT and sixth-seeded Ithaca in the semifinals on Saturday, May 3.
