#9 Spiders top Statesmen with strong 1st half

GENEVA, N.Y.—The nationally-ranked Richmond lacrosse team got off to a fast start on the way to a 15-7 Atlantic 10 win at Hobart this afternoon. The ninth-ranked Spiders jumped out to a 5-0 after one quarter and took a 10-2 advantage into halftime on the way to their third straight win.
 
Lucas Littlejohn and Aidan O'Neil powered UR with five goals apiece. In the first quarter, Littlejohn scored three times while O'Neil had a goal and an assist. O'Neil had a third quarter hat trick. Goalie Zach Vigue made eight saves to earn the win.
 
Junior David Peterkin led Hobart with three goals, his third hat trick of the season. First-year Johnny Harding added two goals and classmate Daniel Cano chipped in two assists. Sophomore Mike Valent won 9-of-14 faceoffs and grabbed a game-high eight ground balls. Jackson Faiola finished with 10 saves in the Statesmen goal.
 
Trailing by five after 15 minutes, Hobart got on the board just over a minute into the second quarter when Peterkin buried a feed from Connor DiTomasso. Littlejohn scored his fourth of the game about a minute later, but Peterkin answered to make it 6-2.
 
Richmond (8-3, 2-0 A10) ripped off the next six goals to build their biggest lead of the game. O'Neil's fourth goal of the day gave the visitors a 12-2 lead at the 11:26 mark of the third quarter.
 
Hobart (3-8, 0-2) scored four of the final seven goals in the quarter gain a little traction. Harding scored the only goal in the fourth quarter for either team.
 
Hobart will be back in action Saturday, April 12, when the Statesmen visit Philadelphia to take on Saint Joseph's (8-3, 1-1). The opening faceoff is scheduled for noon.
