Field Hockey hosts annual William Smith Classic this weekend

The William Smith field hockey team is set to host the annual William Smith Classic this weekend. Saturday's contests will see the Herons take on Gettysburg at 10:30 a.m., followed by St. Lawrence vs. Lebanon Valley at 2 p.m. Sunday's action will begin with the Saints taking on the Bullets at 10:30 a.m., followed by the Herons and Flying Dutchmen at 2 p.m.

Fans who can't make it to McCooey Field this weekend can follow all the action with HWS All-Access Video and Live Stats. The William Smith games will be broadcast on WHWS-FM (105.7 in Geneva).

ABOUT THE HERONS:
  • William Smith enters the weekend with a 2-2 overall record and is coming off a 4-1 nonconference loss to No. 18 Ursinus on Saturday.
  • Sophomore defender Caroline Kogut leads the team with nine points on four goals and one assist.
  • Sophomore Madison Campisi is second with four points on two goals.
  • First-year Olivia Terranova has the edge in goalie minutes played for the Herons. She is 2-1 this season with a 1.76 goals against average and a .667 save percentage.
ABOUT THE BULLETS:   
  • Gettysburg brings a 3-1 record into Saturday's game and is coming off a 7-0 win over Juniata on Saturday.
  • Sabrina Post (3G) leads the team with six points. Margaret-Ann Graves (2G, 1A) and Sydney Yaw (2G, 1A) follow closely behind with five points each.
  • Emilia Saccento has played the majority of minutes in goal for the Bullets. She is 2-1 with a 2.30 GAA and a .643 save percentage.
ABOUT THE FLYING DUTCHMEN:
  • Lebanon Valley enters the weekend with a 2-2 overall record and is coming off a 2-1 loss in overtime to Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday.
  • Claire Weidenhammer and Rebecca Lane lead the team with six points on three goals each.
  • Ella Weidenhammer leads the Flying Dutchmen in goal with a 0.73 GAA and a .880 save percentage. She is 2-2.
SERIES SNAPSHOT:
  • Saturday's game will be the 11th meeting between the Herons and the Bullets. It is the first meeting since Sept. 8, 2002, when William Smith defeated Gettysburg 2-0 in Gettysburg.
  • Sunday's game will be the 31st meeting between the Herons and the Flying Dutchmen.
  • Lebanon Valley defeated William Smith 2-1 in last year's William Smith Classic.
