Hobart football hosts Utica in home opener Saturday

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart football team will make its 2025 Urick Stadium debut when it hosts Utica on Saturday, Sept. 20. Kickoff on Boswell Field is scheduled for 1 p.m.

  • All tickets to the game are general admission and cost $5. Children 12 and under are admitted for free.
  • The game will be webcast on HWS Athletics All-Access
  • WHWS-FM (105.7) will broadcast the game live.

SERIES HISTORY
  • Saturday will be the fourth gridiron meeting between Hobart and Utica with the Statesmen holding a 2-1 series lead.
  • Hobart swept a home-and-home series in 2012 (45-26) and 2013 (34-21).
  • The Pioneers prevailed in the most recent meeting, 10-6 in the 2023 ECAC Clayton Chapman Bowl.
 
WEEK 2
  • The Statesmen are still seeking their first win of the season after suffering their second straight one-possession loss.
  • Hobart led Brockport for most of the second half, but the Golden Eagles put together an eight-play, 90-yard scoring drive late in the fourth quarter to take a 14-10 lead with 2:13 remaining. The Brockport defense made the lead stand up.
  • Senior free safety Alex Smith made a team-high 10 tackles, broke up a pass and notched an interception.
  • Sophomore Aidan Conrath completed 14 passes for 170 yards in his second career start. Junior wide receiver Marcus Peterson was his top target, catching a game-high four passes for a game-high 91 yards.
  • Junior running back E.J. Taylor averaged 3.9 yards per carry, finishing the game with 58 yards on the ground and four receptions for 32 yards through the air.
 
SCOUTING REPORT
  • Utica improved to 2-0 with a 41-14 win over RPI last week.
  • The Pioneers are averaging 556.0 yards per game, 10th in the nation. The Utica aerial attack leads the charge, ranking second in the nation at 456.5 yards per game.
  • Junior quarterback Tyler Szalkowski has a 238.7 passing rating (2nd in the nation), completing 80% of his passes for 913 yards and 10 touchdowns with no interceptions.
  • Senior wide receiver Bryce Palmer has a team-high 17 receptions for 269 yards and three TDs.
  • Defensively, sophomore linebacker Isaiah Thomas has a team-leading 18 tackles.
