Herons host Falcons for Senior Day Saturday

The William Smith field hockey team will welcome non-conference foe, Messiah, to Geneva Saturday, Sept. 27, for a matchup on McCooey Field. Action between the Herons and the Falcons is set to begin at noon with a brief ceremony prior to the start of the match to celebrate the William Smith Field Hockey Class of 2026.
 
Taste of Soul food truck will be on site serving fans from noon to 4 p.m. outside of Bristol Gymnasium. HWS students/faculty/staff will receive one free meal with a valid OneCard.

Fans who can't make it to McCooey Field this weekend can follow all the action with HWS All-Access Video and Live Stats. The game will be broadcast on WHWS-FM (105.7 in Geneva).

ABOUT THE HERONS:
  • William Smith enters the weekend with a 5-4 overall record and is coming off a 4-1 non-conference loss to No. 14 Hamilton on Wednesday.
  • Graduate student Rebecca Mantione leads the team with 15 points on six goals and three assists. Sophomore Caroline Kogut follows with 10 points on four goals and two assists.
  • Junior Leah Griffith and sophomore Hadley Harbert share the team-lead with two defensive saves. Harbert has recorded back-to-back defensive saves in the last two games for the Herons.
  • Sophomore Baker Jeremiah and first-year Olivia Terranova have split the minutes in goal for William Smith this season. Jeremiah is 3-1 this season with a 2.72 goals against average and a .622 save percentage, while Terranova is 2-3 with a 2.12 GAA and a .710 save percentage.
ABOUT THE FALCONS:   
  • Messiah enters the weekend with a 2-5 record after falling to No. 3 Johns Hopkins 1-0 on Wednesday.
  • Aubrey Clark leads the team with four points on two goals. Three players follow with two points each this season.
  • Lillian Peters has tallied the Falcons lone defensive save of the season during a 1-0 shootout loss to No. 2 Christopher Newport.
  • Joy Lippert has played every minute in goal for Messiah this season. She is 2-5 with a 1.04 GAA and a .849 save percentage.
SERIES SNAPSHOT:
  • Saturday's game will be the 29th meeting between the Herons and the Falcons. Messiah holds a 26-2 edge over William Smith including a 12-1 advantage in Geneva.
  • Last season on Sept. 28, 2024, the Falcons defeated the Herons 3-1 in Grantham, Pennsylvania. Senior Abby Jones tallied William Smith's lone goal.
