Herons host Bombers Wednesday

The William Smith soccer team continues its three-game homestand on Wednesday, Oct. 1, when it welcomes Ithaca to Cozzens Field. The Liberty League contest is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
 
The Herons enter the match with a 5-2-2 overall record and 1-1-0 in conference play. The Herons began the homestand with a 4-0 win over Bard on Saturday. Grace Metzler led the offensive charge, recording a goal and an assist in the win.
 
Ithaca is 3-3-2 overall. The Bombers dropped their league opener to Vassar 1-0 on Saturday. Katrina Varnum made 10 saves in goal for Ithaca.

ABOUT THE HERONS
  • Senior Ruth Hotaling leads the Heorns and is tied for the league lead with six goals. Her 13 points also lead the Liberty League.
  • Seniors Julia Accioly (4g, 2a) and Julia Bragg (5g) are second on the team with 10 points.
  • Sophomore Grace Metzler leads the team with three assists.
  • Junior Antonia Goerke has played the majority of the minutes in goal. She is 5-2-2 with a 0.82 GAA, an .829 save percentage and five shutouts. She is 11th in the nation in shutouts.

  • Lilyana Baldi leads Ithaca with three points on a goal and an assist.
  • She is one of four Bombers to have scored a goal this season.
  • Ava Detorie has a team-high two assists.
  • Varnum has played every minute in goal. She has a 0.38 GAA and an .897 save percentage. She also has five shutouts this season.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Wednesday's game will be the 40th meeting between William Smith and Ithaca.
  • The Herons lead the all-time series 24-9-6, including a 14-5-2 advantage in Geneva.
