William Smith, Elmira renew Route 14 rivalry

The William Smith ice hockey team will be back in action this weekend, Jan. 16-17, when it takes on Route 14 rival Elmira in a home-and-home series. The teams will be at The Cooler on Friday at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the Herons will make the 49-mile trip down Route 14 to the Murray Athletic Center for a 6 p.m. faceoff.
 
William Smith is 7-6-0 this season and is looking to snap a three-game skid.
 
Elmira, which is receiving votes in this week's USCHO.com poll, is 7-3-1. The Soaring Eagles are coming off a loss to Norwich on Jan. 5.

  • William Smith is led offensively by sophomore forward Bella Hacker's nine points on five goals and four assists.
  • First-year Finley Crosby, junior Laine Heiser and senior Kelly Howe all have three goals each.
  • Hacker shares the team lead in assists with Crosby and Heiser.
  • Junior Mia Iwicki has played the majority of the minutes in goal. She is 5-5-0 with a 2.69 GAA and a .930 save percentage and two shutouts.
 
ABOUT THE SOARING EAGLES
  • Anna Lugge leads Elmira with 13 points on seven goals and a team-high six assists.
  • MK Boyle is right behind her with 10 points, including eight goals.
  • Boyle is 13th in the nation in goals per game (0.73).
  • Sara Sevcikova has played the majority of the minutes in goal. She is 6-3-1 with a 1.57 GAA and a .914 save percentage.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • This weekend will be the 25th and 26th meetings between William Smith and Elmira.
  • The Soaring Eagles lead the series 22-1-1.
  • The long-time conference rivals have played every year since 2015, but will meet as non-conference opponents for the first time.
