QUEENSBURY, N.Y.—The Hobart Alpine skiing team opened its 2026 season with two wins over the weekend as it competed in week one of USCSA action on West Mountain. The Statesmen finished first out of 10 teams in both the giant slalom and slalom to secure first place in the Mideast Conference standings.
In Saturday's giant slalom race, which included 65 racers, Hobart produced seven top 20 finishers, including five in the top 10 to claim first place. The Statesmen combined for a team time of 6:16.96, more than 10 seconds ahead of second place finisher, Cornell. Sophomore
Will Patton led the way for Hobart, finishing in first with a combined race time of 2:01.53. Junior
Ethan Hine followed in third place with a time of 2:05.19, while senior
Luke Ward rounded out the Statesmen's top three with a seventh-place finish and a time of 2:10.24. Sophomore
Jake Labanowski came in eighth with a time of 2:11.13, while senior
Rex Eidlin crossed the line at 2:11.13 to claim ninth place.
In Sunday's slalom race, three Statesmen finished top 10 to help claim first place in the team standings by just over 1 second. Patton once again finished first with a combined race time of 1:38.21, while first-year
Zachary Wargo claimed sixth place in his first slalom race of his collegiate career with a time of 1:42.97. Ward rounded out the top three finishers for Hobart with a time of 1:43.90 to secure eighth place.

The Statesmen will be back in action next weekend for week two of USCSA action. The weekend will kick off with the giant slalom on Saturday, Jan. 24, at 9 a.m. on Greek Peak Mountain. Sunday's slalom races will be the following day at 9 a.m. on Greek Peak Mountain.
