Statesmen conclude road trip at Plattsburgh, Skidmore

The top-ranked Hobart hockey team concludes a four-game road trip this weekend, Jan. 23-24, when it takes on Plattsburgh and Skidmore in a pair of SUNYAC matchups. The Statesmen will take on the Cardinals on Friday at 7 p.m. The next day, Hobart will take on the Thoroughbreds at 4 p.m.
 
Hobart enters the weekend with a 16-0-0 record, including a 9-0-0 mark in the SUNYAC. The Statesmen are coming off wins over Fredonia and Buffalo State last weekend.
 
The Cardinals are 8-8-0 on the season with a 4-5-0 mark in conference play. Plattsburgh snapped a four-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over Potsdam on Saturday.
 
The Thoroughbreds enter the weekend with a 7-7-2 record, including a 4-4-1 record in SUNYAC play. Skidmore will host No. 4 Oswego on Friday night.

ABOUT THE STATESMEN
  • Senior Kahlil Fontana and sophomore Arvega Hovsepyan share the team lead with 24 points. They are ninth in the nation in points per game (1.50).
  • Fontana has a team-high 14 goals and Hovsepyan leads the team with 17 assists. Fontana is third in the nation in goals per game (0.88) and Hovsepyan is fourth in the nation in assists per game (1.06).
  • Junior defenseman Conor Lally is right behind them with 23 points. Among defensemen, he is first in the nation in points per game (1.44).
  • Between the pipes for the Statesmen, senior Damon Beaver has the edge in minutes played. He is 11-0-0 with a 1.02 GAA and a .943 save percentage. He is first in the nation in GAA and ninth in save percentage.
 
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
  • Jake Sacratini leads Plattsburgh with nine assists and 14 points.
  • Aaron Catron currently has a team-high nine goals. He is second on the team with 13 points.
  • Plattsburgh has run a three-goalie rotation this season. Beau Lane is 4-2-0 with a 2.76 GAA and a .909 save percentage. Brady Spry has the best numbers, posting a 1.52 GAA and a .950 save percentage. Dominik Bovan is 1-3-0 with a 2.48 GAA and a .912 save percentage.

  • Friday will be the 11th meeting between Hobart and Plattsburgh.
