#1 Hobart begins 3-game homestand Friday

The top-ranked Hobart hockey team will be back in action this weekend, Jan. 30-31, when it begins a three-game homestand. The Statesmen host Canton on Friday at 7 p.m. and Potsdam on Friday at 4 p.m.
 
Hobart is 18-0-0 this year with an 11-0-0 mark in conference play. The Statesmen return to The Cooler after going 4-0-0 on their most recent road trip, including wins over Plattsburgh and Skidmore last weekend. Goalies Damon Beaver and Mavrick Goyer both finished the weekend with shutouts.
 
The Roos are 7-9-1 with a 3-6-1 record in conference play. Canton continues its five-game road trip this weekend.
 
The Bears are 7-9-1 on the season with a 4-5-1 mark in conference play. Potsdam will be at fourth-ranked Oswego on Friday night.
 
Last Saturday, Canton and Potsdam played to a 3-3 tie in Potsdam.

ABOUT THE STATESMEN
  • Hobart is first in the SUNYAC with 22 points.
  • Sophomore forward Arvega Hovsepyan leads the league with 27 points and 18 assists.
  • Senior Kahlil Fontana leads the SUNYAC in goals (14) and is second in points (25).

  • Canton is in a three-way tie for seventh with Plattsburgh and Fredonia with eight points each.

  • Evan Pringle is right behind him with a team-high eight goals and 15 points.
  • Scott Cremen shares the team lead with 11 assists.
  • Trey Miller has the edge in minutes played. He is 5-3-1 with a 2.52 GAA and a .927 save percentage.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Friday's game will be just the second meeting between Canton and Hobart and the first in Geneva.
  • On Nov. 22, the Statesmen won 4-0 in Canton. Beaver went the distance in goal, making 17 saves.
 
ABOUT THE BEARS
  • Potsdam enters the weekend in sixth in the league standings with nine points.
  • Ryan Mahlmeister has a team-high 14 points on nine goals and five assists.
  • Owen Walston is right behind him with 13 points.
  • Mathieu Parent leads the team with nine assists.
  • Lenny Perno has played the majority of the minutes in goal. He is 5-6-1 with a 3.24 GAA and a .915 save percentage.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Saturday's game will be the 46th meeting between Hobart and Potsdam.
  • The Statesmen have won the last eight games in the series to even the match up 22-22-1.
  • Hobart is 12-7-0 all-time at The Cooler.
