Herons set to host Skidmore, RIT this weekend

The William Smith basketball team will be back in action this weekend as it hosts two conference games against Skidmore and RIT. The Herons will take on the Thoroughbreds Friday at 5:30 p.m., followed by a matchup with the Tigers Saturday at 2 p.m.

ABOUT THE HERONS: (2-8, 0-3 LL)
  • William Smith is coming off a 57-49 nonconference loss at Utica on Saturday, snapping its two-game win streak over winter break.
  • Junior guard Giana Lobozzo was named to the Liberty League weekly honor roll after three impressive performances over break. She averaged 16.7 points per game, 8.0 rebounds per game and 3.0 steals per game to help the Herons secure their first two wins of the season.
  • Giana Lobozzo leads William Smith and ranks sixth in the Liberty League in scoring, averaging 13.5 points per game. Junior Amelia McCulley follows with 11.3 ppg, while Ava Lobozzo chips in 7.7 ppg.
  • The Herons average 38.9 rebounds per game as a team and are led by Giana Lobozzo's 6.2 boards per game. McCulley follows with 5.0 rpg, while Ava Lobozzo chips in 4.6 and junior Miranda Martin adds 4.5 rpg.
  • Giana Lobozzo leads the team with 30 steals and ranks second in the conference with 3.0 steals per game. Ava Lobozzo adds 1.7 spg, while McCulley records 1.0 blocks per game for William Smith.  
ABOUT THE THOROUGHBREDS: (2-7, 0-2 LL)
  • Skidmore is coming off a 118-52 loss to No. 1 NYU on Monday.
  • Madison Meyer leads the Thoroughbreds in scoring, averaging 19.8 points per game. She is followed by Sophia Martinez with 9.6 ppg.
  • Skidmore is led by Claudia Schneider with 5.2 rebounds per game. Ruby Krop grabs 4.6 boards per game, while Audrey Bowen adds 3.5 rpg.
  • Meyer averages a team-leading 2.1 steals per game, while Krop has recorded a league-leading 2.3 blocks per game.
ABOUT THE TIGERS: (5-5, 2-1 LL)
  • RIT is coming off a 64-53 loss to Rochester on Tuesday and will head to Liberty League foe, Ithaca, on Friday before traveling to Geneva on Saturday.
  • Caroline Henderson averages a team-leading 14.2 points per game for the Tigers. Maddy Ramsgard follows with 10.4 ppg, while Faye Kaplinski chips in 9.4 ppg.
  • Kaplinski grabs a team-leading 7.1 rebounds per game, while Ramsgard adds 7.0 rpg.
  • Defensively, RIT is led by Ramsgard and Henderson's 1.2 steals per game. Kaplinski adds 0.8 bocks per game, while Ben Kayser-Cochran chips in 0.7 bpg for the Tigers.
SERIES SNAPSHOT:
  • Friday will be the 59th matchup between William Smith and Skidmore. The Herons lead the series 33-25, including a 17-12 edge in Geneva.
