Heron rowing to compete in the Head of the Charles

10/16/2026 2:05:00 PM

The William Smith rowing team will be back on the water on Sunday, Oct. 18, when it heads to Boston for the Head of the Charles Regatta. The Herons will compete in the Women's Collegiate Fours event, which is scheduled to begin at 1:59 p.m.

The Head of the Charles is one of the largest regattas in the world. This year marks the 61st year that rowers from around the world will race down the Charles River, which separates Boston from Cambridge. This year's HOCR features 73 events, 845 clubs and 2,664 entries that will compete on a 3-mile route that runs from Boston University's DeWolfe Boathouse to just short of Northeastern University's Henderson Boathouse.

Last year, William Smith won a silver medal in the collegiate four event, its best finish in the event in program history. Lizzy Whitney, Meghan Bartholomay, Aubrey Ryan '26, Kate Abdalla '26, and Linnea Darius '26 powered the Herons boat down the Charles River course. This year, Whitney, Leah Wiebe, Eden Grim, Cheyenne Muldowney and Bartholomay will represent William Smith. They will be the second boat off the start line.

In addition to last year's silver medal, the Herons won a bronze medal in the collegiate four in 2008. William Smith also won a silver medal in the collegiate eight in 2012 and a bronze in 2013.

This year's racing will be streamed on the Head of the Charles YouTube Page.
