Herons conclude action at ITA Northeast Regionals

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The William Smith tennis team wrapped up action at the 2026 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Women's Northeast Regional Championships this afternoon.

Senior Grace Magna and first-year Lillian Stukovsky highlighted the Heron action this weekend, advancing to the round of 16 in the main doubles draw. Stukovsky also advanced to the second round of the singles main draw.
 
DOUBLES ACTION

  • Magna and Stukovsky competed in the main doubles draw for William Smith. The duo won their opening match, defeating Vassar's Sara Lippin and Gwendolyn Gray 8-2, before falling to top-seeded Sophia Cunningham and Helena Lynn from Saint Francis, 8-6.
  • In the B draw, junior Bethany Walker and sophomore Katie Hardy received a first-round bye, advancing to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, the Heron duo took on Rochester's Lilly Caldwell and Aiza Ahmed, ultimately falling in a thrilling matchup, 8-6.

 
SINGLES DRAW

  • William Smith had three players entered in the main singles draw.
  • Stukovsky continued her impressive start to her collegiate career, defeating Scranton's Erin O'mara 6-1, 6-0 in the opening round to advance to the round of 32. She then took on 16th-seeded Elliotte Banziger from Vassar in the round of 32, ultimately falling 6-1, 6-3.
  • First-year Katelyn Gray took on Baruch's Anusha Yadav in the opening round. After dropping the opening set, Gray rallied to take set two, 6-1, to force a third set tiebreaker. Despite the comeback, Gray dropped the thrilling first round matchup, 4-6, 6-1, 7-10. Gray also competed in the consolation draw but fell in the opening round.
  • Magna also competed in the singles main draw but ultimately fell in the opening round to NYU's Noelle Faber, 6-2, 6-1. Magna went on to win one match in the consolation draw.

COACHES CORNER

"The Herons competed well, controlled the controllables and learned a lot from this tournament experience," said Head Coach Tim Riskie. "A few improvements on executing certain shots will determine our ability to improve this offseason and be ready for the upcoming dual match season."
