MORRISVILLE, N.Y.—The William Smith ice hockey team scored three goals in the third period as it cruised to a 4-1 win over Morrisville in a SUNYAC contest at the Morrisville IcePlex this afternoon. With the win, the Herons secured their spot in the six-team SUNYAC playoffs.

Rowan Kennedy (1g, 1a) led the way for William Smith, recording a goal and an assist in the win. First-years

Lilly Relyea and sophomore
Ainsley Lonczak also had goals for the Heron. First-year
Julia Echavarria played all 60 minutes in goal and made 18 saves as she earned her second collegiate victory.
Zoe Lea had the goal for the Mustangs. Gabrielle Brazeau played just under 59 minutes in goal and made 20 saves.

- With the win, William Smith is now 11-11-0 on the season and 7-4-0 in SUNYAC play.
- Morrisville falls to 3-19-0 with a 1-10-0 record in league play.
- The Herons also beat the Mustangs 4-1 earlier this season.

MATCH MOMENTS
- Neither team found the back of the net in the first period. William Smith finished the opening frame with a 9-6 advantage in shots on goal.
- Jorjia Gillis had the game's first scoring chance, but her shot was turned aside by Echavarria.
- William Smith's best chance in the first 20 minutes came off the stick of Kelly Howe. She had a pair of chances from close range turned aside by the Morrisville goalie.
- The Herons broke the deadlock at the 6:46 mark of the first period. Lilly Relyea intercepted a clearing attempt and ripped a shot past Brazeau. Her third goal of the season was a short-handed tally.
- Crosby gave William Smith a 2-0 lead just over two minutes into the third period. Crashing the net, she collected a pass from Howe and flipped a shot past Brazeau. Anna Tardiff also had an assist on Crosby's fifth goal of the season and team-leading third game-winning goal.
- The Mustangs broke up the shutout bid at the 12:47 mark of the final frame. Zoe Leas fired a shot from the point through traffic and into the back of the net. Her fourth goal of the season was a power-play goal and was set up by Madison Lawrence.
- Kennedy extended William Smith's lead to 3-1 with her fourth goal of the season. She collected a pass from Colleen Quirk and snuck a shot across the goal line.
- Lonczak rounded out the scoring with her fifth goal of the year, depositing a shot into an empty net. Kennedy had an assist on the tally.
UP NEXT
William Smith will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 14, when it heads to Cortland to take on the Red Dragons. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. Cortland is currently second in the league standings, one point ahead of the Herons.
