HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both the Herons and the Brewers took some time to settle into the game before the two sides traded the early points. William Smith shot 27% from the floor in the opening quarter and held Vassar to just 21% as the Herons jumped out to a 9-7 lead after the first.
- The battle continued in the second quarter as the Brewers shot 50% from the floor compared to the Herons 31%. William Smith found crucial points from its bench as it pushed the pace of the game but was matched with an efficient Vassar side that outscored William Smith 14-12 in the second quarter. The Herons and Brewers would enter halftime tied 21-21.
- The conference thriller continued in the third quarter as William Smith outscored Vassar 18-16 in the third 10-minute period. The Herons put together a strong offensive showing in the third, shooting 57% from the floor, including 50% from behind the arc. William Smith found important points off Vassar's turnovers as it took a two-point lead heading into the final frame.
- In the final 10 minutes, both Vassar and William Smith continued to battle in hopes of grabbing the late momentum of the game. The Brewers came out strong to start the quarter and pushed their lead to as much as four points before a Giana Lobozzo three-pointer once again made it a one-point game. With 2:21 left in the game, Ostovar hit a clutch three-pointer to give William Smith the lead, but Vassar would go on a 3-0 scoring run in the final two minutes to end the conference thriller on top 53-51.
