Top-seeded Statesmen host Fredonia in SUNYAC Quarterfinal

The top-seeded Hobart hockey team will open the SUNYAC tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 25. The Statesmen will begin their quest for the SUNYAC Tournament title against No. 8 seed Fredonia. Faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at The Cooler.
 
Tickets for Wednesday's game are $5 for adults, $3 for children 5-12 and children 5 and under are free. Students from any of the SUNYAC member schools are admitted free with a valid ID, including HWS students. Tickets will go on sale one hour before the opening faceoff.
 
Hobart finished the regular season with a 25-0-0 record. The Statesmen earned the No. 1 seed after going 18-0-0 in SUNYAC play.
 
Fredonia went 4-20-1. The Blue Devils went 4-13-1 in SUNYAC play and clinched the No. 8 seed.

ABOUT THE STATESMEN
  • The Statesmen are led by sophomore Arvega Hovsepyan's 28 assists and 38 points. He is currently ranked third in the nation in assists per game (1.12) and seventh in points per game (1.52).
  • Senior Kahlil Fontana is right behind him with 36 points and has a team and league high 19 goals on the season. He is fifth in the nation in goals per game (0.76) and 13th in points per game (1.44).
  • Hobart has 16 players who have recorded double digit points this season, including four with 30-plus. The Statesmen are first in the nation in scoring offense (5.60).
  • Senior goalie Damon Beaver has the edge in minutes played. He is 16-0-0 with a 1.01 GAA and a .949 save percentage with five shutouts on the season. He is first in the nation in GAA and winning percentage and tied for first in shutouts. 
 
ABOUT THE BLUE DEVILS
  • The Blue Devils are led by Hudson Cameron's 13 points on six goals and seven assists.
  • Cameron is followed by Luke Morris (9g, 3a), Cash Anderson (4g, 8a), and Owen Cross (4g, 8a) who all have 12 points.
  • Charles-Anthony  Barbeau has played the majority of minutes in goal. He is 4-16-1 overall with a 3.64 GAA and a .908 save percentage.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Saturday's game will be the 28th meeting between Hobart and Fredonia.
  • The series is tied 12-12-3, but Hobart leads 6-4-1in Geneva.
  • The Statesmen won both meetings this season 7-0.
