Herons face #13 Plattsburgh in SUNYAC Semifinal

The William Smith ice hockey team continues its pursuit of its first SUNYAC title on Saturday, Feb. 28, when it travels to Plattsburgh for a semifinal matchup. Faceoff is scheduled for 3 p.m at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena.
 
Tickets for Saturday's game are $5 and will be available for sale beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the Plattsburgh Field House box office. Tickets can also be purchased online.
 
The Herons advanced to the semifinals after a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory against Canton on Wednesday. Senior captain Kelly Howe scored 56 seconds into overtime to secure the victory.
 
Plattsburgh is 18-6-1 this season. The Cardinals went 12-1-1 in SUNYAC play, clinching the No. 1 seed to secure a first-round bye in the tournament.
 
ABOUT THE HERONS (12-14-0)
  • Sophomore Bella Hacker and Finley Crosby share the team lead with 14 points each.
  • Hacker has a team-high eight goals while Crosby has seven goals and seven assists.
  • Senior Kelly Howe (6g, 6a) follows close behind with 12 points.
  • Junior Tara Valas has a team-high nine assists.
  • Junior Mia Iwicki has played the majority of minutes in goal. She has a 2.44 GAA and .932 save percentage.
 
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
  • Emily Kasprzak leads the team with 23 points on six goals and a team-high 17 assists.
  • Bailey MacKellar, Zoe Puc, and Taya Balfour have 20 points each. MacKellar has a team-high 12 goals.
  • Maddy Stetson and Chloe Lewis have split time in net this season. Stetson is 9-2-1 with a 0.85 GAA and a .951 save percentage. Lewis is 9-4-0 with a 1.79 GAA and a .904 save percentage.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Saturday's game will be the ninth meeting between the Herons and Cardinals and the third this season.
  • Plattsburgh won both matchups earlier this season.
 
SUNYAC TOURNAMENT
  • Oswego will host Cortland in Saturday's other semifinal game.
  • The advancing teams will faceoff in the SUNYAC Championship game on March 7. It will be hosted by the highest remaining seed.
