KIMBALL IN CONTROL: Statesmen shut out Macs in Myrtle

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.—The Hobart baseball team began is spring break with a 5-0 win over Immaculata on Friday on Crosley Field at The Ripken Experience. Junior Trevor Kimball pitched seven strong innings, allowing just two hits while striking out a season-high five batters.

Kimball retired the first eight batters he faced, striking out three over the first two innings. The Statesmen gave Kimball the lead in the bottom of the second. Junior Connor Schmiedlin led off with a high chopper up the middle for a single and later scored when junior Jack Byrnes laid down a perfect bunt.

Hobart extended its lead with three more runs in the third, all with two outs. Sophomore Jack Farnen led off and was hit by a pitch and then stole second. Junior Sean Garvin drew a one-out a walk. Both runners moved up a base on a ground out. First-year Quinn Dashefsky delivered a two-run single to left and then scored on sophomore Aidan Davenport's double.

Hobart added one more insurance run in the eighth inning. Dashefsky walked and advanced on a throwing error before Byrnes doubled down the left field line to bring him home, making it 5-0.

Junior Jake Schulte pitched the final two innings to complete the shutout. He struck out two.

On the offensive side, Byrnes was 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Dashefsky was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
