Sailing 9th at Graham Hall Team Race

ANNAPOLIS, Md—The Hobart and William Smith Sailing team, which is ranked 14th in the latest Sail1Design Team Race rankings, finished ninth at the Graham Hall Team Race at the Naval Academy this past weekend, March 14-15.
 
The regatta included 10 of the top 16 teams in the ranking, including each of the top five teams.
 
ABOUT THE REGATTA
  • Sailors completed 98 races on Saturday in a breeze ranging from six to 20 knots out of the west-northwest. Sixty-four more races were completed on Sunday in a 5-12 knot breeze out of the east-southeast.
 
RACING RESULTS
  • HWS went 8-12 on the weekend, finishing ninth in the standings.
  • In the first Round Robin, HWS logged wins over No. 15 University of Pennsylvania, Old Dominion, Fordham and Christopher Newport to earn a spot in the Silver 6 Round Robin.
  • In Sunday's Silver 6 Round Robin, HWS was 4-1, logging wins over No. 12 St. Mary's College of Maryland, Miami, the Quakers and George Washington.
  • HWS finished in a three-way tie with Miami and Penn and was awarded the tiebreaker because they were 3-0 against the tied schools.
  • Senior Juan Carlos LaCerda Jones, junior JJ Klempen and sophomore James Kopack competed as skippers for HWS and sophomore Sam Carson, first-year Jamie McGuffee, sophomore Olivia Wilkins, junior Stella Kim, senior Cooper Delbridge and senior Laura Therien sailed as crew.
 
UP NEXT
HWS will be back in action on Saturday, March 21, when it competes in a pair of regattas. The team will be in Kings Point, New York, for the KP Open Team race and Washington, D.C., for the Blaire Herron Team Race.
