Diplomats down Herons 7-0

ORLANDO, Fla. – The William Smith tennis team continued its spring break trip with a nonconference battle against Franklin and Marshall this afternoon, ultimately falling to the Diplomats 7-0 at the USTA National Campus. With the loss, the Herons fell to 3-2 overall, while Franklin and Marshall improved to 2-5 overall.
 
William Smith battled in doubles play but dropped all three matches as the Diplomats secured the early doubles point. Senior Haley Levine and junior Grace Magna put up a fight in the No. 1 spot but dropped a 6-3 decision to Natalie Untermeyer and Sophia Rhazali. With the loss, Levine and Magna are now 3-2 in the No.1 doubles position this season.
 
The Herons continued to fight in singles play but were matched by a strong Franklin and Marshall side that secured wins in all six matches to close out the nonconference battle on top. Junior Mae Kellersman led William Smith in the No. 1 spot, ultimately falling 6-4, 6-4 to Untermeyer. She is now 3-2 in the No. 1 singles spot this season.
 
First-year Kaitlyn Hardy battled in the No. 6 spot but fell to Cynthia Li 6-0, 6-4, while Levine dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision to Sahara Ahmad in the No. 2 spot. With the results, Hardy and Levine are now both 2-2 on the season.

William Smith will be back in action on Wednesday, March 18, when it closes out spring break action with a nonconference match against Springfield. First serve between the Herons and the Pride is set for 11:30 a.m.
