ORLANDO, Fla. – The Hobart tennis team closed out its spring break trip with a 6-1 win over Springfield this afternoon at Sanlando Tennis Center. With the win, the Statesmen improve to 6-1 on the season, while the Pride fall to 4-4 overall.
Hobart came out strong in doubles play, defeating Springfield in all three matches to secure the doubles point. In the No. 1 spot, seniors
Nick Fischer and
Aidan Staunton impressed with a 6-2 win over Tim Norin and Ethan Gomulka. With the win, the Statesmen duo move to 6-1 on the season.
In the No. 2 spot, junior
Achilleas Kousaridis and first-year
Everett Reid continued their dominance, moving to 7-0 on the season with a 7-6 (7-2) win over Austin Prendiville and Marc Villanueva Abad. The Statesmen added another win in the No. 3 spot as senior
Jose Martinez Barelles and first-year
Tejus Ranadive defeated Liam Huppke and Angelo Guzman 7-5 to move to 4-2 in dual match doubles play.
The Statesmen continued to roll in singles play, winning five of six matches against the Pride to secure the nonconference victory. In the No. 1 position, Fischer continued to impress with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Guzman, securing his fourth win of the season in the No. 1 spot.
Staunton added a win in the No. 2 spot, defeating Prendiville 6-1, 6-4 to move to 4-1 on the season. First-year
Michael Georgelis continued his impressive rookie season with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Villanueva Abad in the No. 4 spot. Georgelis is now 6-1 to begin his collegiate career.
In the No. 5 spot, Reid secured a 6-2, 6-4 win over Phakin Thongbookcharoen to move to 3-2 in dual match singles play this season. Hobart wrapped up the win in the No. 6 spot as Ranadive defeated Gomulka 6-2, 6-1. Ranadive is now 4-1 to open his rookie season.
