Herons head to Pittsburgh for AMCC Championship

The William Smith bowling team will compete for the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship at Pines Plaza Lanes in Pittsburgh March 20-22. The Herons earned the No. 2 seed and a first round bye.
 
The three-day championship begins Friday morning with No. 3 Alvernia squaring off with No. 6 Pitt-Bradford and No. 4 Penn State Behrend taking on No. 5 Hilbert. William Smith will face the winner of the Alvernia-Pitt-Bradford match Friday at 2:30 p.m. Top-seeded Saint Vincent will battle the winner of the other first round match.

All tournament matches will be streamed live online.
 
TOURNAMENT FORMAT
  • The AMCC Championship features the conference's top six teams.
  • The first round is single elimination. From the second round on, the tournament is double elimination.
  • Teams will compete in a mega match comprised of a traditional match, a Baker match, and if the teams are tied, a best of seven Baker match.
 
ABOUT THE HERONS
  • William Smith carries a 51-30 record into the tournament. It's the most wins in a season in program history.
  • The Herons are seeking their second AMCC championship after winning the 2024 title. Last season, William Smith was the runner-up, falling to the top-seeded Bearcats 2-1 on Championship Sunday.
  • The Herons won both meetings this season and are 7-0 all-time against the Golden Wolves.
  • William Smith was also 2-0 this season and has won four in a row against the Panthers, including a 2-0 mega match win in last season's AMCC Championship tournament.
  • Seniors Caitlyn Anschutz and Michaela Morgan lead the Herons. Anschutz is averaging a team-leading 18.74 pins per frame, while Morgan is right behind her at 18.45.
 
WEEKEND SCHEDULE
  • Saturday's third round matches begin at 9:30 a.m. with the fourth round getting underway at 1:30 p.m.
  • Championship Sunday starts at 9:30 a.m.
