The Hobart and William Smith Sailing team opened the spring portion of its schedule with a pair of team race regattas this past weekend, March 7-8. HWS, which is 14th in the latest Sail1Design Team Race ranking, finished third at the John Jackson Memorial Team Race in Washington, D.C.

In addition, William Smith sailors competed in the Jen Harris Team Race in Annapolis, Maryland. Â

JOHN JACKSON MEMORIAL TEAM RACE
- Racing began in the Washington Sailing Marina lagoon on Saturday morning before shifting to the Potomac River during the midday hours and returned to the lagoon in the afternoon.
- Sunday saw a delay onshore until around noon before the wind filled in out of the west south west.
- HWS finished the weekend third out of eight teams with a record of 4-6.
- In Round 1, HWS went 4-3, posting wins over Connecticut College, Old Dominion, Roger Williams, and Pennsylvania.
- In the final four round robin, HWS went 0-3, falling to Boston College, Georgetown, and Roger Williams.
- HWS was tied with Roger Williams for third when racing was called and earned a third-place finish after defeating the Hawks 1-2-5 in a sailoff
- Juan Carlos LaCerda Jones, JJ Klempen, and James Kopack served as skippers and Jamie McGuffe, Stella Kim, and Laura Therien competed as crew.

JEN HARRIS TEAM RACE
- Teams arrived to a thick layer of fog, but a sailable wind and races were contested for most of the day on Saturday. With 53 races in total being completed.
- Sunday saw very little wind and a lot of fog. The race committee postponed the regatta onshore until noon. The postponement was lifted but there was not enough wind, so no races were contested on Day 2.
- The Herons finished the weekend 11th and won two races.
- William Smith picked up victories over Old Dominion and South Florida.
- Deana Fedulova, Sabrina Starck, Lauren Campbell, and Moira Padilla competed as skippers. Cara Brickhouse, Olivia Wilkins, and Reilly Roedel competed as crews.

UP NEXT:
HWS sailing will be back in action next weekend, March 14-15, when they return to Annapolis. The team is set to compete in the Graham Hall Team Race.
