The Hobart and William Smith sailing team was back on the water this past weekend, April 11-12, competing in two regattas. Heron sailors were at the Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association Women's Team Race Championship in Washington, D.C.

In addition, HWS was at the Truxtun Umsted, a cross-regional regatta hosted by the Navy.

MAISA WOMEN'S TEAM RACE
  • Saturday racing started in a moderate NW wind. After the Round of 9, racing was called for the day. Cornell finished Day 1 in the lead with an 8-0 record.
  • On Sunday, the Top 6 and Final 4 round robins were completed.
  • William Smith was 3-5 on Saturday, finishing in a tie with the University of Pennsylvania. The Quakers advanced to Sunday's racing with a head-to-head win.
  • The Herons beat Fordham, Old Dominion, and St. Mary's College of Maryland.
  • Sophomores Deana Fedulova, Sabrina Starck, and Lauren Campbell competed as skippers, and juniors Ella Donaldson and Reilly Roedel, and sophomore Olivia Wilkins competed as crew.
  • Cornell University won the regatta with a record of 16-0

TRUXTUN UMSTED
  • In Annapolis, Maryland, Saturday's breeze started out of the northwest and aligned perfectly with the Severn River. The second half of the day was a battle, trying to time races with 150-degree wind shifts. Eight races per division were completed on Day 1.
  • On Sunday, the wind built up to 17 knots, staying at a steady SSE. That allowed for an additional six races per division to be contested.
  • In total, 14 races were completed in each division. Pennsylvania won the regatta, finishing with 155 points.
  • HWS was 17th.
  • In A Division, senior Nico Garcia-Castrillon served as skipper and first-year Molly Pile sailed as crew. They finished in the top 10 in three races, finishing in second place in the sixth race.
  • In B Division, senior Owen Carolan sailed as skipper and junior Bennet O'Keefe (races 1-8) and first-year Parker Yim (races 9-14) sailed as crew.
