Herons sweep Knights 7-0 in regular season finale

GENEVA, N.Y. – The William Smith tennis team closed out its regular season with a 7-0 non-conference sweep of SUNY Geneseo this afternoon in Bristol Field House. With the win, the Herons improve to 8-10 on the season, while the Knights fall to 9-6 overall.

William Smith came out strong in doubles play, sweeping all three matches to secure the doubles point from Geneseo. In the No. 1 spot, senior Haley Levine and junior Grace Magna defeated Natalie Pipes and JoAnn Catalano 6-1 to secure their eighth win of the season.

In the No. 2 spot, junior Mae Kellersman and sophomore Bethany Walker added a 6-1 win over Samantha Rava and Rachel Molloy to improve to a team-leading 9-8 record on the season. Seniors Marin Montagne and Maddy Buck closed out doubles play with a dominant 6-0 win over Ashleigh Fredriksen and Lauren Levatino in the No. 3 position. With the win, the duo improved to 6-5 on the year.

The Herons continued to roll in singles play, winning all six matches to secure the non-conference win. First-year Katie Hardy opened singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Fredriksen in the No. 6 spot. With the win, she improved to 8-9 in her rookie season.

Levine added her second win of the day as she defeated Rava 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 2 spot, improving to 9-8 on the season. Kellersman topped Pipes 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 1 spot, securing her seventh singles win of the season.

Magna secured a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win over Molloy in the No. 3 spot. She is now 9-8 in her junior season. Walker added a thrilling 6-0, 5-7, 1-0 (10-5) win in the No. 4 position, improving to 7-10 on the season.

Sophomore Mia Jacobs officially clinched the match in the No. 5 spot as she defeated Levatino 6-3, 6-1. With the win, Jacobs moves to 8-9 on the season.

"A fantastic end to regular season play," said Head Coach Emme Levenson. "We played well and finished points at the net. We are excited to get back to work as we head to the conference tournament next week!"

William Smith has officially clinched a spot in the Liberty League Championships for the first time since 2019. The Herons will be back in action Friday, May 1, in the first round at Cornell's Reis Tennis Center. More information will be announced once it becomes available.
